Walgreens and Express Scripts Divide and the Effects on You

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

My 9 year old daughter, Squeakers, has Asthma; she's was diagnosed at 2 years of age.  Numerous hospital stays and prescription medications later, I can tell you how important it is to have a good prescription plan.

For the past year Walgreens and Express Script has been in contract negotiations to hopefully come to an agreement for Walgreens to continue as a pharmacy provider in the Express Scripts network. As of January 2012 that contract ended and Walgreens is no longer in the Express Scripts network.  Express scripts worked like a middle-man between the employer health plans and pharmacies, a network partnership with Walgreens which used to bring pharmacy customers affordable medications.  Express Scripts primary goal was to get these customers to solely use their mail order pharmacy which would ultimately effect the production of it's customers local pharmacy.  This will allow Express Scripts to gain control of the profits, prescription brand classification, to name a couple.

What does this mean for you?

Higher prices for the same prescriptions for those who use the Express Scripts network. Not all will be affected during this change, only those who have been using Express Scripts and Walgreens pharmacies need be concerned.  It's advisable that these customers speak with their Walgreens Pharmacist to determine if this change effects you.  You can also check the back of your prescription card to see if Express Scripts is listed; if it's not listed, you will not be affected.

How is Walgreens helping with the transition?

To minimize any negative effects the elimination of this partnership will have on it's pharmacy customers, Walgreens has implemented a savings offer during January for those who would like to switch over to the chains Walgreens Prescription Savings Club for individuals or families.  Individuals can purchase a membership for $5 and families, along with immediate family members under the same plan, can purchase a membership for $10, a savings of up to 70%!  What does a membership gain you?  Discounts on flu shots, pet medications, nebulizers and diabetic supplies, a savings on over 8000 brand name and generic medications and other member bonuses.

Walgreens has taken action to help transition their customers smoothly; be sure to take advantage of the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club savings offer before the offer expires at the end of January.

Do You Take Your Pet's Nutrition Seriously?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hills Pet Nutrition. All opinions are 100% mine.

I normally don't blog about my pal furry pal Pork Chop because we are always busy with other events, like our DIY Home Construction.  Recently I have been watching Baby Girl develop a really close bond to Pork Chop; they have developed a friendship that I did not expect.  You see, Baby Girl was terrified of dogs up until about a month ago and thanks to Hubs persistence, she overcame her fear and warmed up to Pork Chop.

This had me thinking about the long term effects of their human/fur baby relationship and the health of our family pet.  I found out about the Hill's Healthy Mobility Challenge and spent some time reading the Hill's Pet Nutrition section of the Hill's pet website.  Naturally being a large breed dog, Pork Chop doesn't have as long of a life expectancy.  This is why it is especially important to me to do everything I can ensuring Pork Chop holds on to his mobility as long as possible.

Pork Chop loves the farm; he has the run of our 10 acres, including a coulee that runs through our property.  He makes his daily rounds around the acreage and, being a water dog Newfoundland breed, spends most of his time frolicking in the coulee.  On one of these rounds, Pork Chop had the unpleasant experience of meeting his first Skunk.  Luckily he only was slightly sprayed, enough to bruise his ego.  The miles he puts on every day is one great way to ensure he keeps his mobility healthy but it can also take a toll on his joints after time.

One of the ways to prevent mobility problems is by feeding your dog Science Diet Healthy Mobility Dog Food.  Ready to take the Mobility Challenge for your pet?  Hill's pet offers the Hill's Healthy Mobility Coupon to help you along.  Currently Hill's Pet is running the Healthy Mobility Challenge Sweepstakes; by registering for the coupons you will automatically entered into the Sweepstakes and could be one of 30 people chosen to win your pet FREE dog food for one year.  To keep posted on other Hill's Pet Nutrition, check out Hill's Pet Nutrition on Facebook

Back to School: What Happens at Home

Back to School

I work from home, so to say I’ve been on a huge hiatus this summer would be an understatement.  I’ve worked; don’t get me wrong, just not with near as much concentration and certainly with very little consistency.  But, my two little guys head back to school on Monday and that means I will do my best to get back in action.

My grand plan is to finish a bit of cleaning, get new routines in gear and get my work done during the day while the boys are at school so I can spend time with them when they are home.  The reality will probably be much more chaotic than my simplistic dream.  My kids function really well with schedules, as do most children when given the option, but my kids are absolutely routine-driven.  Each year we set up a plan of attack for the
new school year and this year we are making some changes.
